Cloud computing is an emerging field of IT that lets users to merge their computing applications, information and data in a virtual environment. It provides seamless remote access and has proven to be a victor beating all doubts of safety, data integrity and connectivity issues. The term cloud is meant to imply that everything happens in a virtual and invisible environment which cannot be physically touched or felt but can only be used. A splendid example of cloud computing will be Google services. Gmail, Google calendar, contacts and Drive can all be integrated online with the help of saas cloud providers. When you receive an e-mail on your smartphone it is also automatically updated in your desktop mail inbox. The next time you open your mail the same e-mails can be retrieved, re-read or discarded without any limitations. Corporations are now resorting to the services of a dedicated cloud infrastructure provider for taking advantage of cloud computing in their business operations.
Cloud computing is largely classified into Infrastructure as a Service, Platform as a Service and Software as a Service. With IaaS, corporations can outsource their equipment requirements to a cloud infrastructure provider. This includes using of hard drives, personal computers, networking equipment, etc. that is owned by the provider but available for use by the corporation. In PaaS, enterprises are allowed to use a variety of applications that run on cloud servers for their operations. The company that is using the services will pay the cloud host company for the providing the platform.
In SaaS, cloud applications are charged to a client on the basis of usage. They are not sold like erstwhile software licenses that can be used for a definite period of time before they expire. SaaS enables a company to scale its operations rapidly without having to tie up heavy working capital on software licenses. SaaS is available on demand and brings a great deal of economical benefits compared to software licenses. However, at present, IaaS scores above other forms of avaya video conferencing solutions, the prime reason being the huge costs for asset procurement that it saves organizations.
Cloud computing is described by many internet experts and analysts as something that needs to handled with utmost care. Although there is an element of risk and security concern involved in using cloud applications, the advantages largely outweigh the disadvantages. Moreover, the concept is still in infancy stage and has a long way to go before it can attain maturity. Cloud computing has already opened up a large variety of business models and avenues that is improving business efficiency and profitability considerably. The day is not far when all our devices will be hosted from a cloud based environment.
